The new players
The new team at Cypres consists of two active associates:
Cédric
Hustinx has had training in personnel direction and management. For the
past three years he has been general delegate for Musica Numeris
Belgique, the nº 1 company for classical music sound recording, active
throughout the whole of Europe;
Meet Camille De Rijck, who successively created forumopera.com, the first francophone webzine devoted to opera, employing more than thirty journalists around the world, and Pelléas Artists, an artistic agency on a human scale devoted exclusively to opera singers. He joined Cyprès in June 2006 at the invitation of Cédric Hustinx.
Continuity
Founded
just over a decade ago, the Cypres catalogue now contains about a
hundred titles in a repertory that ranges from medieval to contemporary
music. From Guillaume Dufay to Luc Brewaeys, from Roland de Lassus to
Joseph Jongen, from César Franck to Henri Pousseur, our country has
produced over the centuries an impressive number of superb composers!
Yet Belgian musical life is also the result of the intense activity of
its performers, the new generation of which is the heir of earlier
masters such as Lemmens, De Greef, Ysaÿe and Grumiaux. These last years
have seen a constant development of the label, as well as growing
interest in its innovative, intelligent programming, justly rewarded by
the international press (Cannes Classical Award, ‘Chocs’ of Le Monde de la Musique, 10 of Répertoire, etc.) but also by a faithful and ever broader public.
Projects
The
‘new Cypres’ will be respectful and proud of what is already a unique
catalogue, with the firm intention of adding new projects to it,
projects that will reflect its passions and an approach to music that
signals quality and attracts attention. The future of Cypres will be
structured around different axes:
- it will be rooted in
the music of our time, by pursuing a series of projects that form the
very essence of the label: defending composers of today and making them
better known, but also closely following the overall creative approach
of some of them;
it will highlight the Belgian musical
heritage: a broad-ranging exploration coupled with the desire to bring
back to life masterpieces from the rich musical past in our regions; it
will emphasise continuity with the artistes: following, throughout
their discographic career, a series of performers and musical
formations, be they Belgian or foreign, in specialised or main-stream
repertories; - it will offer original programmes, include
projects that will take you off the beaten track, while still ensuring
artistic quality and musical interest.
Creativity
In
the recording world things move very quickly. What artistes and
ensembles want from their recording companies becomes more and more
specific. As well as being a producer, Cypres, together with every one
of its partners, will be looking for the best solution for the
expansion of their discographic projects, thanks to an open and
creative attitude. An ongoing determination to rethink and question the
various ways of diffusing and promoting the artistic projects
championed by Cypres, adapting them to suit their respective audiences;
this will be the touchstone of the label’s activity.
Innovation
Little
details herald big changes. Apart from the fact that the name ‘Cypres’
has lost its accent, it is now dressed in a new logo that, still
evoking the original tree, lends itself to different interpretations -
it’s up to your imagination! Thinking about distribution leads
naturally enough to the Internet web site that presents the catalogue
and enables music lovers to keep up to date with all new releases - and
also to buy them online!
Quality
At
every stage in the production of a disk, from concept to distribution
and promotion, via the recording and the editorial work, quality is the
watchword for all that Cypres does. This can be seen every month in the
new releases - often world premiere recordings - prepared under the
best artistic and technical conditions. Every disk in the catalogue and
every one of our partnerships are the result of a project that has been
thought through in its totality and championed with enthusiasm. |
