José Van Dam

Quite strangely, the fabulously rich archives of the Opera National de Belgique (La Monnaie) have never been exploited as they so deserve. This is the reason why Cypres, hand in hand with the team of Peter de Caluwe at La Monnaie, are undertaking the creation of portraits of artists who have left their marc on the Belgian stage. Following a moving disc posthumously dedicated to Susan Chilcott (CYP8601) and a Mozart CD dedicated to Sophie Karthäuser (CYP8602), it is only natural that we are now turning our attention to José Van Dam, a true keystone of La Monnaie since 1981, the year of his return to Bruxelles. We have consulted hundreds of hours of recordings to prepare a double disc to be released to celebrate his 40 years of career and for him to bid farewell to the stage ; among these there is a remarkable series of performances of ‘’Don Quixote’’ by Massenet precisely at La Monnaie.

Sophie Karthäuser

While her album of opera arias by Mozart (CYP8602) has just been released, we are preparing with Sophie Karthäuser a portrait of French melodies about poems by Paul Verlaine. This will be her opportunity to consolidate her duo with the French pianist Cédric Tiberghien. And to follow this release, which brings together two of the brightest musicians of their generation, there will be a long concert tour in all of Europe.

Philippe Boesmans

After the success of ‘’Julie" (CYP4626) and "Tunes’’ (CYP4629) (a CD devoted to the piano works of the Belgian composer), Cypres is getting ready to release, in collaboration with the Opéra National de Paris, the recording of ‘’Yvonne, Princesse de Bourgogne,’’ an opera drawn upon a piece by Witold Gombrowicz by the same name. We find in this disc two of the most prestigious French singers: Mireille Delunsch et Yann Beuron. At the same time, Cypres should re-release ‘’Reigen’’, the second opera by Philippe Boesmans that Le Monde had crowned with an unusual compliment : ‘’the greatest opera of the last 75 years.’’

The Belgian chamber music interpreters

Cypers is well known for fifteen years now for the production and publishing of rare works in the repertoire of Belgian chamber music. Today, we are launching two complete collections: the complete collection of chamber music by César Franck and by Albert Huybrechts. In parallel, we are also working on a portrait of the composer Victor Vreuls (1876-1944.) For this projects we are bringing some of our most loyal partners: La Monnaie, David Lively, Tatiana Samouil,...
