With the financial support of the British Council and the Belgian Foundation for Talent, soprano Sophie Karthäuser completed her studies with Noelle Barker at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Sophie has been invited by prestigeous ensembles and orchestras such as The Academy of Ancient Music, les Arts Florissants, La Petite Bande, Les Folies Françoises, Die Akademie für Alte Musiek, the Freiburger Barockorchester, the Gewandhaus Leipzig... she sang with conductors such as Louis Langrée, Kent Nagano, William Christie, René Jacobs, Marc Minkowski, Kazushi Ono, Christian Zacharias, Thomas Hengelbrock, Jérémie Rhorer and Riccardo Chailly and is shceduled for tours and concerts with Cercle de l?Harmonie, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra, Les Arts Florissants... In 2003, Sophie won the Price of the Public at The Wigmore Hall song contest, she appeared in recital at the Palais des Beaux-Arts (Brussels), at La Monnaie, at the Flanders Opera, at the Opéra de Lille, de Nantes, de Bordeaux at the Cologne Philharmonie, together which pianists such as Graham Johnson, Eugene Asti, David Lively and Cédric Tiberghien. She sang the Spanisches Liderbuch at the Strasbourg opera together with Stephan Loges. Sophie experienced a dream-come-true Mozart debut: she sang her first Pamina next to René Jacobs at La Monnaie and her first Susanna next to William Christie at Opéra de Lyon. She has appeared in several Mozart roles, such as Tamiri at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Serpetta at Berlin Konzerthaus, Despina and Zerlina at La Monnaie, Ilia at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. Further Mozart projects include Ilia in Salzburg with Minkowski and in Paris with Rhorer. Other opera projects include title-role of La Calisto at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées (with Christophe Rousset), a large Rameau project in Aix en Provence with William Christie and American choreographer Trisha Brown, Marzellina in Fidelio under Kurt Masur, the title part of Händel?s Susanna with Les Arts Florissants and a revival of Hosokawa?s Hanjo at La Monnaie. Further concerts will bring her in venues such as Musikverein (Vienna), Carnegie Hall (New York), Théâtre des Champ-Elysées, Théâtre de la Ville (Paris) and Palais des Beaux-Arts (Brussels), Théâtre de la Ville (Paris). Sophie?s recordings include a solo album of Gretry arias (Ricercare), the Complete Mozart songs (Cypres), Die Schopfüng (Virgin), Il Ritorno di Tobia (Naxos). She will record a CD of Haydn arias with Le Cercle de l?Harmonie, Mozart arias with La Monnaie and French mélodies after Beaudelaire (Cypres).
