Baba Sissoko & BLACK MACHINE

On March 2009, Baba Sissoko comes to Brussels with 7 brothers and nephews for a first series of concerts. Baba and his family are considered the holders of oral and musical traditions, the “couriers” of memory, they are “griots.” They play the ngoni and the calebasse but they are above all masters of Tama (the talking drum). The player of tama places the instrument under his arm and hits it with a curved stick in different ways varing the pression on the cords that hold the drum head, resulting in many complex sounds. They are fast, energetic, precise, like a well-oiled machine – a Black Machine. Baba Sissoko plays regularly for Buena Vista Social Club, Fela Kuti, Ry Cooder, Youssou ‘N Dour, Santana, Dee Dee Bridgewater and many others. Like Aka Moon, he is in constant search of new sounds and new musical dynamics.

Culture Griot (Ref.: CYP0605)
Aka Moon, Baba Sissoko and his ensemble Black Machine present the result of their energetic collaboration, their album Culture Griot. While the musical touch of Aka Moon is immediately recognized, it is the African rhythms and melodies that dominate the work. They bring us amazingly powerful music and hypnotical chants.
