LEDOUX Claude (°1960)
Born on 23 February 1960. After gaining a diploma at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, he followend advanced classes in Italy and Hungary. From 1987 to 1989 he lived in Paris where he attented computer music seminar at IRCAM. As a composer he has won distinctions in several international comppetitions (Lille, Paris, Lausanne) and has since led a carrer which has taken him, amongst other places, to Montreal, Berlin, the USA, Turkey and Russia. Fired by his passion for Asiatic music, the composer undertook several research trips to India, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia between 1992 and 1997. Apart from his activities as journalist and pianist, Claude Ledoux currently teaches composition at the Royal Conservatory of Mons in Belgium.
Claude Ledoux's works belong to a current of musical synthesis whose principal characteristic is clarity of stylistic approach, one that seeks to guide the listener's perception towards paths unknown to western ears. His music presents facets of a particular kind of sensuality based on the interaction of harmony and tone-color, though his interest for oriental music had also led him to reflect on questions of musical ornamentation, such as is practised in the orient, as well as on the relationship of performance gesture to instrument. Taken in this sense, his works evince a straightforward desire to renew the melodic element, in which emotion stems form the coming together of different cultural imaginations.
