Philippe Hirshhorn violin Lydia Petcherskaya piano
The double CD album devoted to the violinist Philippe Hirschhorn, released in early 1998 (CYP9605), was an event unanimously hailed by the press. It revealed an exceptional artist, soloist on the podium, yet one who was too obsessed by perfection to have a veritable discography. He was both soloist (under the baton of Karajan or Leitner) and chamber musician (with Martha Argerich, Elisabeth Leonskaja or Mischa Maisky), and also teacher. This CD reveals him at the age of 21 in the important recital following his victory in the Queen Elisabeth Competition of 1967. In this live programme ranging from Bach to Milhaud, Philippe Hirschhorn proves he was one of the greatest violinists of the latter part of this century.
ADD Text by Martine Dumont-Mergeay in English, French, Dutch and German Recording RTBF Live - June 7, 1967 Palais des Beaux-Arts (Brussels) also performed by Lydia Petcherskaya, piano
