Jean-Luc VOTANO Clarinet
ORCHESTRE PHILHARMONIQUE ROYAL DE LIEGE WALLONIE BRUXELLES
Louis LANGREE Conductor

The Orchestre philharmonique de Liège and Cypres have launched a collaboration with the aim of featuring young talents who are more than just promising. After Lalo?s Symphonie concertante (CYP7608) performed by David Cohen ? who has since become first cello solo of the Philharmonia of London ? here are the clarinet concertos (CYP7609) that are the consecration of the clarinetist Jean-Luc Votano ? aged barely 23. While the Concerto in A major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is a well-known perennial hit, two exhilarating works complete this disc: the First Concerto in F minor by Weber conjures up the unsettled mists of early German Romanticism, while Rossini?s Introduction, Theme and Variations is a worthy creation of the dizzy, frisky spirit of its genial father. The way in which Jean-Luc Votano and Louis Langrée sculpt the sound is exemplary and moves us not by overdone effect but by supremely restrained eloquence. Louis Langrée appears here on his last recording with the OPL as music director. With his abundant discography strewn with awards, this great Mozartian at last gives us his reading of the Concerto in A major.
