César FRANCK (1822-1890)
Le chasseur maudit
Les Djinns
Les Eolides
Variations Symphoniques

ORCHESTRE PHILHARMONIQUE ROYAL DE LIEGE WALLONIE BRUXELLES
François-Xavier ROTH Conductor
Cédric TIBERGHIEN Piano

OUT OF STOCK César Franck and the OPRL share a musical identity specific to Liege?s geographic location, at the crossroads of French and Germanic influences : German roundness and density, French transparence and fluidity brought by this CD of orchestral works. Les Eolides and its play of tones and haunting rythms demand refinement and energy from the orchestra. Just as in the Chasseur maudit, a true orchestral outburst, where Franck?s art extracts all its dramatic motivation from the substance of the story of this aristocrat cursed for having gone hunting during church service. By adding the intense piano, Franck sets up a discordant voice amidst a fierce and dense orchestra in Les Djinns. Within the famous and very modern Variations symphoniques, the piano settles in the hearf of the orchestra in a position that is not concertante but neither purely percussive. Franck fabricates here a different relationship between piano and orchestra. There is in this disk quite a rare collection of works which lets us (re)discover some of Franck?s pieces and to load-up with energy through these orchestral epics.
