The stage of the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie has been host to some of the most famous recitalists in the world. Since Gérard Mortier took over as head of the prestigious institution in 1981 the radios of the two communities have recorded almost systematically the different recitals that have been programmed. This gigantic legacy has been sleeping peacefully in the archives of the RTBF and the VRT and we are today presenting it in a collection of recitals, devised conjointly by Cypres and the teams at La Monnaie. To launch this collection we have naturally enough chosen José van Dam, who has been both the tutelary figure of the contemporary La Monnaie and the greatest Belgian recitalist since Suzanne Danco. This collection is structured around several poles, one contemporary, featuring singers currently active whose performances still resound in our memories, and one of heritage, that digs deep into the treasures of Belgian singing, featuring some legendary voices. The pace of publication will be of at least one disk a year and, without revealing our future projects ? still under discussion, it should suffice to recall briefly the standards of those responsible for so many fine evenings at La Monnaie: Dale Duesing, Susan Chilcott, Jules Bastin, Peter Schreier, Waltraud Meier, Simon Keenlyside, Ian Bostridge, Thomas Hampson, Wolfgang Holzmair, Violeta Urmana, Susan Graham, etc.
